The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have selected
guard/forward Shan Foster with the 51st overall selection of the 2008 NBA
Draft.

Foster (6-6, 205) finished his four-year career at Vanderbilt as the
school's all-time leading scorer (2,011 points) and first in three-pointers
made (367). He was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year last
season and was the recipient of the Lowe's Senior Class Award. He was named
All-SEC three times and, in his senior season, was the first player in
history to earn SEC Player of the Week honors four times.

The Kenner, La., native was named Second Team All-America as a senior when
he averaged 20.3 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting .523 from the field
and .469 from behind the arc. Foster is the first Commodore to surpass 2,000
points (22nd in SEC history) and ranks second in SEC history in
three-pointers made.

Foster averaged 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in Rio de Janeiro as a member of
the USA Basketball Pan American Games squad in July 2007.

"We are really excited about Shan Foster," President of Basketball
Operations Donnie Nelson said. "He is long and athletic with good size.
Shan can also shoot the ball. Coach Carlisle felt like shooting was the hole
in this team and wanted to get a shooter to put around Jason (Kidd). We feel
very fortunate that Shan fell to us this late in the draft."
