SHERMAN, TX-Texomans came together Thursday night to honor the thousands of lives lost to AIDS. AC Cares hosted their Spring AIDS Quilt Day program to educate the public about the disease and to share stories of those who've been affected. Four quilts surrounded the Wright Center living room, representing the more than 60 people who've died of AIDS in Grayson county. The group has held the event for 20 years.
"This disease was once at one time, no one would speak about it. It was still stigmatized and we want to make sure that these people are never forgotten. That their lives, they did not die in vain," said sponsor, Roger Platizky.
All proceeds will go to the Callie Clinic in Sherman and the New Start Children's Orphanage in Zimbabwe.
