Husband of murdered Paris woman arrested

PARIS, TX - Police say last night they arrested the husband of a woman found dead in her home in Paris over the weekend.

Investigators are not calling Donna Barrett's husband a suspect but he was arrested last night, not for murder, but on unrelated charges including an alleged assault against his late wife in March of this year.

Paris police say 42-year-old Byron Barrett was arrested on a bond surrender warrant not related to the investigation of the death of his wife.

The warrant included charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon assault of a family member and impeding breathing.
43 year old Donna Barrett was found dead inside her home in Paris on Saturday.

Officer Curtis Garrett says his department is currently investigating several leads in her death along with the help of a local Texas Ranger.
They say they cannot give us any other details at this time.

"We don't want to release something that may be pertinent to the case that may be, ya know especially evidence that can be destroyed before we get to it, so we're not releasing anything that may possibly impede the investigation." said Officer Curtis Garrett.
