ARDMORE, OK - The Carter County Veterans Council hosted its annual Memorial Day program at the Ardmore Veterans Center Monday.

Community members came out to pay tribute to those who have served and are currently serving in the military.

The ceremony began at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Several local lawmakers attended and wanted to remind people today is not just about barbeques and vacations, but also those who have lost their lives fighting for our country.

Oklahoma State Representative Tommy Hardin was the guest speaker, his son is currently serving in Afghanistan.

"I have mixed emotions today," Hardin said. "Today is the day to honor those who have lost their lives because of their service and having a son over in Afghanistan really brings it home today."

The 910 Quartermaster Company with the US Army Reserve posted and retired the colors at the ceremony and the Ardmore High School band played the National Anthem.
