Ford retires in Celina

The Celina Bobcats have a tradition in high school football that is unmatched in the state of Texas. They have won eight state championships. The architect for two of those titles is stepping down.

Butch Ford is calling it a career after successfully following in the footsteps of G.A. Moore, the state's all-time winningest coach. Ford took on the challenge of following a six time champion, and ended up leading Celina to four state title games, winning two of them.

Ford won 88 percent of his games since being hired in 2002. Before serving as a head coach at Celina, Ford was a long time assistant. He helped Moore with the other championship teams.

Long time assistant Bill Elliott takes over as the interim head coach and athletic director. It is widely anticpated that Elliott will become the full time replacment when the board of education meets in two weeks.
