Texas' Hales to forego final season of eligibility

Posted: 2:44 PM Aug 18, 2012

Texas wide receiver DeSean Hales will forego his final season of eligibility but will remain with the team as a student coach.

A news release from the university Saturday said DeSean wants to focus on completing his degree and plans to graduate this fall.

Hales said in the news release that the decision wasn't easy but he's looking forward to being a student coach.

Hales, who is from Klein, located in the Houston area, has played in 31 career games, appearing on both offense and special teams. He's recorded 13 receptions for 87 yards.

Head coach Mack Brown said in the news release, "We understand his decision and look forward to him staying involved with the team and being a positive influence, especially to the young receivers."
