Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir to be built in Fannin County

(BONHAM, TEXAS) --

The Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir is a project officials have been drafting for the past 10 years and with good reason.

Denise Hickey with the North Texas Municipal Water District says " the economic impacts could be upwards of $560 million dollars to Fannin County."

The Fannin County population is expected to double within the next 50 years. Experts say the 113 million gallons of water the 16,000-acre reservoir will bring is necessary.

Construction is not set to begin until 2016 but the city of Bonham is already looking forward to the economic boost it will bring.

Bill Shipp, the Bonham city manager says, "They bring some jobs to our local people number one..certainly anytime you have workers working in the area they are buying gas here they are eating at our restaurants they are shopping at our restaurants..so yes it does bring something to our city even then."

Hickey says a portion of each Fannin County resident's monthly water bill will pay for the $670 million dollar project.

Bill Shipp says, "I think it's a real game changer for the city of Bonham and for Fannin county."
