(FANNIN COUNTY, TEXAS) -- The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed a felony conviction for a Fannin County man who possessed large quantities of ecstasy.
Vaughn Ray Bell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2010. At his jury trial, Judge Laurie Blake ordered Bell to be placed in shackles, which he says took away his right to a fair trial by depriving him of the presumption of innocence.
This week, The Appeals Court said Judge Blake erred in Shackling Bell, but since the jurors could not see the shackles, the felony conviction stands.
Bell's attorney says they plan to further appeal to the state Supreme Court and U.S. District court.
