Timing is Everything Part 1
"The Best Window of Opportunity"
This is a 3 part series on the benefits of fall gardening. The best window of opportunity is at our doorstep. Many think that spring is the best time to plant. The reason that fall is the best to plant is because:
. longer time line for establishing new plants (plants have a
better chance)
. advantage of fall and winter rainy seasons
. the cooler/milder temperatures
. great time to find better prices at the nurseries (everyone
loves saving money)
. great time to be outside with the wonderful fall weather
. time to put the pre-emergent out RIGHT NOW (prevents broadleaf
weeds other seeds from germinating)
a. less stress
b. evapotransperation (moisture loss of flora)
c. fewer pests and insects to devour new foliage
d. less chemical and pesticide use
e. greater root growth, so that when the stress of the Texoma
summer comes, life can be sustained
f. trees have a better chance of survivability when planted in
fall and winter
(Note: Trees are your greatest asset; they are the highest value for one's landscape.)

With all the water this past spring, we have an incredible amount of seeds laying dormant just waiting for the right conditions to be germinated. Corn gluten meal is a preemergent and rye grass as a top cover.
