Gardening Resolutions for 2012 with the Grayson County Master Gardeners

2012 has arrived, and many of us make resolutions at the start of each year to improve our lives. Don't forget to make resolutions for your garden!

Jerry Haynes from the Grayson County Master Gardeners offers us these tips for gardening resolutions:

Don’t procrastinate - create a calendar to help you get things done in a timely fashion. For example - plan to fertilize your plants on a monthly basis.

Get organized – clean up your garage or wherever you keep your gardening tools and supplies.

Clean up and sharpen gardening tools and machinery. Drain fuel tanks and run lawnmowers and garden tractors till empty. Store in a garage or toolshed until spring.

Plan a drip irrigation system for your garden and flowerbeds. It will allow you to take a summer vacation.

Start vegetables and flowers from seed. Many more varieties are available in catalogues than in the big box stores. And, the big box stores often stock plants not recommended specifically for this area of the country.

Join the Master Gardeners or a gardening club. There are many in the Texoma area such as the Red River Rose Society.

Regular work in the garden will alsohelp you lose weight, one of the other New Year resolutions you may wish to consider…
