SHERMAN, TX -- We introduced you to non-profit agency, MasterKey Ministries of Grayson County on a recent Moms Everyday segment.
With school just around the corner for many area children, we'll go into more detail about their kids programs for this family fun edition.

Your kids are invited a party this fall! MasterKey Ministries in Sherman offers monthly events geared towards children and teens. The "Kick" Outreach KeyClub for Kids is the non-profit agency's outreach program to youths in need. Director Julie Rickey calls it a "key" that unlocks the door to communication allowing other doors to be open.

"For example, once we reach out to children we'll develop that relationship with them," said Julie. "Not just providing an event every month but providing disclipleship with their teachers with those children between months, between events where we actually get to know the family and just open the ministry up to their needs and spiritual, physical, emotional needs, educational needs. Whatever they need."

And speaking of educational needs, four days a week, the KaracterKeys After School Program offers homework assistance, tutoring and enrichment activities to children and teens of low-education or low-income families.

Julie says the idea is to "just provide a loving atmosphere to direct children through character education, academic education".

Her motto for the after school program is "positive reinforcement with accountability". It's open to anyone in the community with a goal to bridge the cultural gap. For Hispanic parents that face language barriers, it offers helps with their kids' homework and communication with their teachers.

"It comes back to our whole viewpoint of how we look at the community," Julie said. "We don't come up with our own ideas. Our ideas are what is the need and how can we fit the need."
