“The Rankin Brothers coming to Kidd-Key Auditorium is another step in branding the city of Sherman as a tourist destination,” said Connie Jones, communications manager. “We are very excited about having them here.”
Originally from North Texas, the Rankin Brothers look forward to returning home. From the peanut festival in Whitesboro to performances at special events in Sherman and Gainesville, the brothers have traveled Texoma. “It is always fun and exciting to come home. We have been to Garland, Grapevine and Arlington. Every time we go to Garland it is a sell out,” said Larry Rankin. “They love to play to the Texas crowds.”
In 2002, Mark and Matt started producing their own show, “The Rankin Brothers ‘50s & ‘60s Rock-N-Roll Tribute,” which they have performed at numerous theaters. Construction began on an auditorium as part of the Kidd-Key College in 1927. The college closed in 1935 and a few years later, the City of Sherman purchased the current property. In 1938, it was designated as a municipal auditorium. Today, Kidd-Key Auditorium hosts cultural performances, such as the Sherman Symphony Orchestra and Nutcracker ballet, as well as concerts, plays and other events throughout the year.
