YOU MUST COOK 2 GALLONS OF CHILI
The American Red Cross is inviting participants for its 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off on Sunday, October 24, at Loose Wheels, Texas. Entrants will be judged by public judging, with first prize being $350, a "trophy" chili pot and braggin' rights.
The chili cook-off is part of the day-long Ride for the Red motorcycle rally which kicks off at 9 a.m. Other activities include a pancake breakfast, the motorcycle ride, three bands and a bean pot judging.
Cook-off entrants are required to cook at least 2 gallons of chili and to begin with ingredients "naked" at the door. (That is no ingredients may be precooked with the exception of canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper sauce, broth, spices. Beans may be presoaked. Meat must not be precooked.)
The judging public pays $5 for 5 tickets to be able to taste and vote for the best chili. Tasting begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. at which time any remaining chili will be sold to the public for $5 a bowl. All proceeds benefit the Texoma Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Prize will be awarded at 4:30 p.m.
