SHERMAN,TX---This is the time of the year that bills can start getting higher once the cold sets it, but there are some things you can do to save money.
"Make sure you've got lots of blankets." said Sisemore.
Brad Sisemore of Sisemore services in Sherman says with the colder temperatures, preparation is key.
"Check your filters, make sure your filters are always, filters are the main thing of everything." said Sisemore.
"You just never know when it could go out, or just quit running." said Spurgeon.
Homeowner James Spurgeon gets his heater checked twice a year to make sure everything is in tip top shape for the weather and his wallet.
"I keep it serviced properly that way I make sure the thermostat's running properly and everything is running properly, and it help's control the bills." said Spurgeon.
This Sisemore service technician goes from house to house and checks resident's heaters to make sure they're running up to speed.
"I check for gas leaks and look for cracked heat exchanges." said the worker.
Maintaining the temperature of the thermostat is also key to saving money. Sisemore has a secret on handling that.
"Just do it two degrees coming up at a time, you know like go to 66 when it gets there and turn it two degrees more, until you're comfortable when you get it to where you want it to be." said Sisemore.
But most importantly, the best way to get ready for the colder weather that can also help save you money, according to Sisemore, is to just use common sense.
"We have a 7-day forecast, come last week if you were watching it you knew it was coming. Think ahead, don't wait till the last minute, because most likely, you're gonna be in the cold." said Sisemore.
