It's been a very mild winter and spring weather is already here, if yesterday was any indication. So, for the gardeners, it's time to do that spring clean-up. With advice, Jerry Haynes from the Grayson County Master Gardeners joins us today.

February Garden Calendar:

· Order new plants from garden catalogs. Visit nurseries for new plants for your landscape.
· Start tomato and pepper seeds indoors to transplant later when the soil has warmed to 70 degrees. Average frost date for Texoma is March 17.
· Test soil for pH and nutrients; adjust as necessary by applying agricultural sulphur to lower PH to 6.5.
· Sharpen your pruning shears and clean up your shovels and rakes with WD40.
· Prune at least one-third off your roses.
· Prune Earthkind roses lightly.
· Wait until your Old Garden Roses and climbing roses have flowered in the spring before pruning lightly.
· Start your pro-active spray program to prevent blackspot before it begins. Spray at least every two weeks, alternating between Honor Guard and Bayer All-in-one Rose and Flower Care (or similar products).
· Wait to apply insecticides until you have an insect problem or you will kill off the good insects.
· Apply 3 inches of mulch around your plants to maintain moisture and prevent weeds.
· Fertilize your plants at least every other month with a gallon of water-soluble fertilizer.
