BONHAM, TX--- Texomans are coming together to donate coats to residents in need.
"They feel just really grateful that there's people out there in the community that care." said Holcomb.
Caring to share the warmth of a coat.
"We have an average of 10 or 12 families that come in on a daily basis asking for warmth." said Wildish.
For the past few weeks Texomans have been donating new or used coats in the Share the Warmth coat drive. Major Helen Wildish of the Salvation Army in Sherman says children are in great need of warmth, especially with the cold weather approaching.
"Children have to go to school, they come home from school, many of them ride the bus or walk to school, and it's cold, it's chilly." said Wildish.
Ashley furniture and Mooyah burger are just a few of the businesses involved with the drive.
Michelle Holcomb works at the Grayson County Shelter, she says it's difficult to keep up with the coats in struggling families, especially when they're always on the move.
"That means you can't take everything, so if they get here and they need that, it's good to be able to give them that." said Holcomb.
The coats will be cleaned, repaired and given to thousands of kids and adult.
"It's a wonderful gift to be able to give out these coats to families." said Wildish.
