The Sherman Museum and the Rotary Clubs of Grayson County will offer special children's programs throughout July and August entitled, "The Living History of the Civil War". This series is designed to provide children with a fun, meaningful, creative, hands-on approach to learning about the American Civil War. Thanks to support from the Rotary Clubs of Grayson County, the workshop cost is a very modest $3.00 per child, with chaperones admitted for free. Advance reservations are required.
The programs, which include history, stories, crafts and activities, are presented in conjunction with The Sherman Museum's summer-long exhibition entitled, "Camp Reeves: Blue and Gray Summer Days." The exhibition commemorates the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War and features a variety of authentic Civil War artifacts as well as historically accurate reproductions. The exhibition and workshops are presented with the assistance of the Colonel George R. Reeves 11th Texas Cavalry, Camp 349, of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Dixie Chapter 5 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
