Safe Family Report: Dangerous Baby Bathing Products
Reporter: Abby Dunn

07-25-06 - Anyone who's ever tried to give a baby a bath knows you have your hands full. Often, anything that might make things easier seems like a good idea.

Be aware: doctors warn that some products could actually put your baby in danger. Bath rings and seats seem practical, because they hold the baby upright leaving your hands free.

However, a study by the Consumer Product Safety Commission found at least 45 children have drowned in the past 20 years, while using those seats. In some cases, the suction cups can lose their grip letting the baby go into the water, face first.

Parents may get a false sense of security and leave an infant alone briefly in the water, or even use more water in the tub than necessary. However, the most important thing in keeping your baby safe, is to provide the proper parental supervision.
