Safe Family:Car Seat Safety
02.06.07. Every state has strict laws about keeping children safe inside a car. It starts the day a baby comes home from the hospital, parents start worrying about keeping their children safe in cars.
As your children grow their needs to be change. Follow these guidelines whenever your child gets into a car:
Infants up to one year old and weight at least 20 pounds need a rear-facing car seat.
Toddlers older than age one and weighing 20-40 pounds need a forward-facing car seat...
Children who weigh more than 40 pounds and are under 4’9” tall should use a booster seat until age eight.
After 8-years-old, or when they reach a height of 4’9”, they should use the lap and shoulder seatbelts in the car.
If your car has airbags, your child should always ride in the back seat. That's because the force of an airbag can severely injure someone under 5ft tall, or about 12-years-old.
One more tip: check with the closest police station to see if they do carseat safety checks.
The seats won't protect your children if they are not properly used.
