Attempted kidnapping in Sherman

SHERMAN, Tex. -- Police in Sherman are looking for a man they say tried to kidnap a girl on her way to school.

Police say a nine-year-old girl was on her way to Crutchfield Elementary on Wednesday morning when they say a man driving a white panel van approached her before she ran away.

Police say the girl ran away from the man unharmed, but her grandmother says she saw the van remain in the same spot for awhile, watching the girl run back to her home.

Police tell us the girl's grandmother called authorities.

"There was a delay in the time frame of when they called us, so we didn't have authorities immediately in the area. Once we were notified, we did send officers out there to canvas the area. We have not been able to locate anything at this time. Schools have been notified,” said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.

Here is the description of the man and the vehicle police are looking for:

-A white panel van with no windows in the back or on the side and there are no markings on the van.

-The suspect is described as a white man in his 50's or 60's having grey hair or blonde highlights.

-The little girl said he sat 'tall in the van,' which may indicate his height.

School officials have been notified and police spent all day Wednesday looking for the suspect.

So far, no arrests have been made.
