MADILL, OK - Since 2006 Madill Public Schools has been under construction, as the school works to make massive upgrades to their campus. Now a new media center built from bond issue funds has finally opened this school year, and students are excited to begin a new school year with new technology at their hands.
Madill High School senior Sierra Stowers says she is excited about the new media center. With more space and extra computers, she says she will be come to the library more often.
"It's really nice. It's nice to have enough space for all of us, and we have a big selection of everything and nice new computers," Stowers says.
"To type papers will be a lot easier."
Librarian Donna Martin has worked for Madill Public Schools for 23 years. She says with the extra space to walk around she will be able assist more students.
"It is very exciting, and I have never seen so much excitement from the students and staff about the library. I think its going to be a great year," Martin says.
After a year of construction this new media center has finally opened just in time for a new school year, providing additional space for library books and 20 new computers.
"More teachers will want to come in and bring their classes. I have already had about half a dozen teachers ask how they can schedule in that haven't done so before," says Martin.
With the additional space up to 30 students can be in the library comfortably. As for the old media room, it is going to be used as a seminar room, storage, and an extra classroom.
Stowers says having the extra space and new toys is something she's excited to have her senior year.
"Our school is really small. There are a lot of new students coming up and a lot of classes are getting bigger and bigger, so i thought it was a good idea to increase the size of our buildings and our school."
The next step in the building process for Madill School District will be to add two additional classrooms in the west end of the high school, one being a science room. School officials say hopefully this project will be completed by the following school year.
