ATOKA COUNTY, OK-- The Caney Police Department and the Atoka County Sheriff's office were both busy, Wednesday, working on reports of two major drug busts.
They say highway 69/75 between Dallas and Tulsa is a common thoroughfare for large amounts of illegal drugs.
They're working hard to make sure anyone who brings drugs through their communities, faces the maximum punishment.
Sheriff Gary McCool burned 140 mature marijuana plants Wednesday, all found just outside the Atoka city limits.
The sheriff said, "The state of Oklahoma says it's against the law to grow it, and it is a law that I enforce. Until they change that, and I'm still here, it will continue to be enforced."
The sheriff says drug dealers could have made nearly $280,000 off the harvested pot plants, and he's not taking the crime lightly.
"You've got to take something away from these people to get their attention. Giving them a suspended sentence isn't always the answer," Sheriff McCool, said.
The sheriff couldn't release many details about who's responsible for the crops because of the ongoing the investigation, but says he's confident the suspect will face justice.
Right down the highway, the Caney Police Department feels they have nearly all the evidence they need to prosecute their own drug case.
Two people passing through Atoka County were caught with a large amount of illegal drugs, Tuesday, during a routine traffic stop.
Assistant Chief, Jesse Yother made the arrest and said "I called for the K9 to come down, the Chief brought the dog down, and the dog alerted on the car. That's when we found approximately four pounds of marijuana and 100 ecstasy pills."
Caney Police pulled over Robert King and Chelsea Murray around 8:30 Tuesday night.
They believe the pair were headed towards Muskogee, where they may have turned a $10,000 profit from the drugs.
The Sheriff says he'll continue to encourage deputies and officers from across the county to crack down on drug offenders, and it's only a matter of time before their luck will run out.
"They've got to get lucky every time they do it. I've only got to get lucky once."
The two people arrested in Caney, face charges of drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute and driving with an open container.
The case involving the pot plants has been turned over to the District Attorney's office.
