BONHAM, TX-- After more than 12 years at the VA hospital, the Fannin County Crisis Center is being forced to move out of their donated space.

Remodeling is needed on the old building forcing the move, but organizers say they're looking at it as a new beginning.

Saturday, they hosted a fundraiser at Trade Days Park in Bonham.
The mood was light at the park, for issues that seriously effect families across the county.

"We try to lift their self-esteem. A lot of them come in with no self-esteem and after they've been there a while, you can see a visual difference in them," Jo Ransom with the Crisis Center, said.

The center provides counseling, legal advice and a 24-hour hotline. They also offer to accompany clients to court and even offer free babysitting.

Staff from the center mingled with members of the community who gathered to raise money for the organization, which operates solely on grants and donations.

"We had a lot of our grants, cut last year. We were getting a lot of money and all of a sudden it's really cut," Ransom, said.

An added burden was placed on the center, when they found out they'd soon have to relocate to a new building.

They're currently searching for a space that can provide the office and counseling areas they currently have.

"We have a lot of family violence and sexual assault, and other types of crime in this area. We usually see about 50 men, women and children, each month," Becky Williams with the Crisis Center, said.

Staff say, they were lucky to receive the rent and utility free building from the VA more than a decade ago, but are looking forward to new opportunities.

A cakewalk, barbecue cook-off, dunk tank and several children's activities were spread throughout the park, Saturday.

Crisis Center employees hoped to collect between $5,000-$6,000 to offset some of their moving expenses.
