CARTER CO., OK-- The streets of Ardmore and other areas in Carter County, were flooded with law enforcement, Friday into Saturday morning, for a special focus on illegal vehicle activity.
Trooper Douglas George, said, "We’re making as many contacts as we can, trying to pay attention to those indicators of drivers that are intoxicated, and taking the necessary enforcement action."
36 troopers, from multiple troops across Southern Oklahoma, along with the Ardmore Police Department and the Carter County Sheriff's office worked all night, handing out 187 citations and making 22 arrests.
"Everyone has been a great help, the staff at the Carter County jail has had a rough night, we've jailed a lot of people. We really appreciate what they do to help us out," Trooper Daniel Arms, said.
The special emphasis was all part of a statewide effort to drastically reduce vehicle accidents, which tend to be high throughout Carter County.
As law enforcement pulled drivers over checking licenses, and checking registrations, they also came in contact with more serious offenders.
Trooper Douglas George attempted to write a citation for a seat belt violation when he found something else.
"I located a pipe full of marijuana, as well as a methamphetamine pipe, as well as all the instruments to use methamphetamine," George, said.
In all, 460 vehicles were stopped by law enforcement throughout the night and 289 warnings given.
