GRAYSON COUNTY, TX-- A nationwide program that supports the rehabilitation of injured war veterans has found a home here in Texoma.

Red River Firearms and Texoma Harley Davidson, sponsored the first Wounded Warriors Project event at Loy Lake Park, Saturday.

Organizers say it's just the start of their plans to recognize local heroes.

55 bikers participated in the Wounded Warrior Bike Run.

The nationwide program helps veterans will all aspects of the recovery process.

"It covers from support groups, to educational, to getting them back acclimated into the civilian world," Jason Webb of Red River Firearms, said.

The program helps severely injured veterans and their families across the country, with physical and mental rehabilitation.

Local marine veteran, Cpl. David Anderson is one of the many helped by the project.

"This wounded warrior project is the best, I am a wounded warrior and they have been working with me, since I have been out. They call me every month or two months, ask me if there's anything I need help with or questions, they'll be right there on top of it for me," Cpl. Anderson, said.

In 2003, Cpl. Anderson suffered major injuries from an artillery attack while stationed in Bagdhad, Iraq.

"Going throughout my back, ruining my intestines, my stomach, my liver. I had a head concussion, and was blind for a couple days," he said.

Live music and several raffles were offered to raise money for the program, that has helped Anderson and his family recover from his devastating injuries.

"Because nobody understands how it is, to take care of somebody that's been in a situation like that, the roller coaster is up and down," Cpl. Anderson, said.

But, he says he'd do it all over again, if he had to, and he's happy to see people in the community come together for such deserving cause.

"It's not a real political thing,” Webb, said. “It's not for the war or against the war, it's not republican or democrat, it's for the soldiers."
