GUNTER, TX-- A church community is coming together to build a new home for one of its long time members.

When Carolyn McClain and her husband moved to Gunter, they purchased a home, they knew had been damaged by fire.

But, they planned to repair the property overtime.

"Well, you know how that goes, you move in a house and nothing gets finished," McClain, said.

Since the death of her husband, McClain says she can no longer keep up with maintenance on the home.

"The roof has been real bad on it, it's got holes in the floor. It is beyond repair. The best thing for that thing to happen, is a match."

Instead, her fellow church members have stepped in, to help.

"I had seen Carolyn at church, and what effort it took for her to get to church. I just mentioned one day, who was she, and found out where she lived, and when I saw where she lived, I knew that there was a need," church member, Phyllis James, said.

Members of the First Baptist Church have come together over the past 8 months, working to rezone the property around McClain's current home, and begin construction on a new building.

"The women out here have worked hard to get this thing started and everything, and I really appreciate it," McClain, said.

At the Sunday morning service, photos were presented from the progress being made, and church members were encouraged to donate their time and materials in any way possible at the upcoming Saturday work days.

"The exciting thing is, as we were down there working and doing things, then people drove by and they would stop. That's basically what we would like to see, is the whole community to get involved," church member, Cheryl Cohagan, said.

Volunteers are encouraged to stop by the site of McClain's new house next Saturday at 7am, to continue construction.

Information can be found at the First Baptist Church in Gunter, off highway 289.

Carolyn McClain says it's the members at the church that have truly, answered her prayers.

"They don't know how much I appreciate what they've done for me. There's no words to describe it."
