THACKERVILLE, OK- A teen is assaulted allegedly by a fellow student with a knife blade on Thackerville school grounds. The assault happened on Monday, the first day back to school.
Officers say a 17-year-old male student cut an 18-year-old female student in the neck.
"It makes me really sad,” said Dylan VonDrak a senior at Thackerville high school.
VonDrak says he's friends and classmates with both teens involved.
"It's hard to tell what you're feeling right now - you're scared, nervous and just don't know what's going to happen,” VonDrak explained.
Police say the 17-year-old boy cut the 18-year-old girl in the neck sometime after 3:00 PM. They say the girl was cut once.
VonDrak says the two teens had known each other for a while.
"He just liked her so very much. And she didn't like him the same way - he took it hard," VonDrak said.
But police say their still trying to piece together the exact relationship and history of the two high school seniors.
School officials say they can't comment on what lead up to the assault.
“Due to student’s rights, I'm not a liberty to disclose a theory – and that's all it would be at this point in time,” Superintendent David Herron said.
But Herron says what is clear - other students and staff were safe.
"We have things in place for different incidences and those were followed to a 't' today. And that's why authorities were called. Everything was handed the manner it was supposed to,” Herron said.
The incident is still under investigation. But police say the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
Officers tell us the 17-year-old boy is being transported to a juvenile detention center. It's unclear at this point what charges he could be facing.
