KINGSTON, OK - The Kingston Police Department building flooded on Wednesday, and so did several streets on the south side of the city. Police officers are reminding you that even though the rain may have let up, you still need to use caution driving around town.
At least an inch of water covered the floors of the police department. Assistant Chief David Ervin says the rain started around ten o'clock this morning on the north side of the building, causing water and likely mold damage inside.
Ervin says repairing the damage from the intense rain will take all day to clean up, and in the south side neighborhoods water rose over some streets and yards causing flash flooding.
Ervin says Kingston Elementary School grounds are in a low lying area, and several classrooms flooded. Although there was some water damage, school will be in session tomorrow.
But Ervin asks parents to use caution when driving to drop off or pick up their children.
"Slow down, even with a minimal amount of water on the roadways, driving in excessive speed you can hydroplane and go off the highway," Ervin says.
Ervin says they have put up barricades and advises people to not drive around them or you will be ticketed.
