ARDMORE, OK - A bomb squad is on scene at a local church after a suspicious device was found in Ardmore.
Ardmore Police say a suspicious device was reported at Northwest Baptist Church at Chickasaw and Northwest Blvd around 12:45 this afternoon. An OHP bomb squad was called in, and right now the FBI and police are on scene collecting evidence.
FBI public information officer Clay Simmons says right now bomb squads have rendered the device safe and that area residents are in no immediate danger. Now agents are investigating where this device came from.
The Ardmore Police Department says the call came in around 12:30 p.m. that a suspicious device had been found in the 800 block of Campbell Street next to the Northwest Baptist Church. OHP and FBI bomb squads were called in to test the device and then later dismantled it.
FBI investigators are on scene collecting evidence. Right now they are not releasing any information on whether the device was in fact a bomb or some other device.
"We're assisting the Ardmore Police Department and OHP Bomb Squad following up any leads to see how the device, where it may have come from, just following up any leads to help us identify why this device was placed there and who might have placed it there," FBI spokesman Clay Simmonds says.
Simmonds says right now the FBI does not have any suspects.
