ARDMORE, OK - With Labor Day weekend just around the corner, AAA Oklahoma is again offering free rides to help make the roads safer for drivers.

AAA estimates 365,000 Oklahomans will drive 50 miles or more from home over the Labor Day weekend, and Ardmore police want drivers to know if they choose to get behind the wheel after they've been drinking there will be consequences.

"If you are doing a little bit of too much partying this weekend, we don't want you out on the road," Kaye Seeliger with AAA in Ardmore says.

AAA estimates 9% more drivers will be on the road this weekend compared to the same time last year. Seeliger says AAA's "Tipsy Tow" is offering a free ride home for any driver who needs a one, plus two other people and the vehicle towed with no questions asked.

"It will be within fifteen miles of where they will pick you up," Seeliger explains.

AAA "Tipsy Tow" services will be provided in seven cities including Ardmore, Tulsa, and Lawton. It's a service Corporal Jason Qualls of the Ardmore Police Department says anyone who's been drinking should utilize.

"It keeps you off the road from driving intoxicated, it keeps your family and other families out of harm's way, and obviously they're going to get your vehicle," Qualls says.

Qualls and Seeliger says these services will help keep the roads safer for everyone, and maybe even save lives.

"You're placing yourself and your loved ones in danger of your life being taken or seriously injured, and you're also putting lives of the people on the road with in danger," says Qualls

Qualls says if you do decide to drink and drive you could be arrested, have your driver's license taken away, and could face charges for driving under the influence.

"We will be doing what we can to keep it as safe, and peaceful and calm and pleasant as we can for everybody."

If you would like to use AAA's free Tipsy Tow you can call 1-800-222-4357. The free services will start Friday at 6 p.m. and will end Sunday at midnight.
