Callisburg, TX-- Kids were anxious to get out of class Friday afternoon but outside it was parents who seemed even more agitated about the wait.
"The traffic's more backed up, it's a lot longer process to get your kid. It's horrible," one parent said.
New pick-up procedures require parents to remain in their vehicles instead of parking and walking up to wait outside the school doors.
Administrators say the change was implemented for the children's safety.
Superintendent Dr. Charles Holloway said, "Not only is it safety of who picks up what child, but we also had children walking in front of cars, we had parents walking in between cars, and parents parking across the road and walking across the playground."
Callisburg also implemented door keys, and new building policies to keep unnecessary visitors, out of the building.
Parents seem to appreciate those changes, but say the pick up procedures don't add any new sense of security.
Staff say they're trying to work out the kinks, and are already seeing improvements.
"It's just a matter of us learning the cars, and the parents learning the procedures, and the past couple days have been much better," Principal Sharron Acker, said.
While phone calls have poured into the superintendent's office since the beginning of the school year, he says, most often, it isn't to complain.
"We've had more parents telling us they appreciate it, than that disapprove," Dr. Holloway, said.
