IN GAINESVILLE and COOKE COUNTY
Police in Gainesville tell us they're already seeing some flooding.
Gainesville Police tell us while all the creeks are within their banks right now, trouble spots on the roads include the Cloud/Witherspoon intersection, which is underwater and barricaded, the low water crossing on East O'Neal near Aspen, and the outside lane of West Highway 82 near Joe Walter's Lumber.
Other trouble spots include:
California / Culberson – standing water
Dixon / Scott St – standing water
1700 E Hwy 82 – water across both EB and WB lanes
Low water crossing on Alabama Dr – one foot of water
Broadway / Fair Ave – standing water
1900 Block E Hwy 82 – water in slow lane of traffic, inside (fast lane) clear
Culberson St north of Broadway – standing water
Police say drivers in Gainesville need to be watching all streets for standing water as the rain continues and should avoid driving into standing water. Officers say DO NOT drive around barricades. Some who did this morning are now stranded on Broadway near Fair.
1:43pm UPDATE: The creeks are running full, but have not left their banks. We continue to have issues with street flooding.
The Cooke County Sheriff's Office reports flooding issues on the following roads:
FM 902
FM 678
FM 2071
FM 3164
FM 372
FM 1200 / 1201
CR 117
These are just some of the major roads in the county. There is likely flooding on county roads as well.
IN ARDMORE
Heavy rain in Ardmore is making driving conditions dangerous on Interstate 35. Parts of Marietta received two inches of rain and Ardmore at least one inch of rain as of 10 a.m. Wednesday.
OHP says there have been three accidents so far, two in Love County and one in Carter County. Trooper Mark Basinger says to use caution while driving in conditions like these.
"Any place between two hills or places where they know there is a creek or low lying area place, they need to be cautious in reference to water on the road way, especially in the dark because they won't see that water in time," Trooper Basinger says.
Despite the rain the Marshall and Carter County Fairs are still proceeding as scheduled.
IN GRAYSON COUNTY
Grayson, Collin and Denton Counties are all under a flash flood warning until 1:30 this afternoon. The rain just hasn't let up since yesterday due to now tropical depression Hermine. Since yesterday the storm has dropped four inches of rain in parts of Sherman.
Ponding has started to form on several roadways, including Texoma Parkway. Several minor accidents have been reported in the Sherman/Denison area in the past 24 hours, and police are asking drivers to slow down and take a few extra minutes to get to their destinations.
The Grayson County Office of Emergency Management is activated to Level 3 and says they will continue to monitor our weather situation throughout the day.
Road Closures:
Around 12:30 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, TxDOT shut down State Highway 289 in Gunter. Both directions are closed due to flooding. Just south of us in the DFW area there are reports of more severe flooding with people actually stranded in their homes because of rising waters, and it's headed our way.
1:13pm: Sherman Police are closing Harrison Street near the overpass where one car is already stuck in high water.
1:22pm: Sherman Police are advising drivers leaving Sherman High School do not go west on Mulberry or Pecan.
1:27pm: Water receded on State Highway 289 in Gunter. Authorities are now reopening the highway.
