PAULS VALLEY, OK -- The Toy and Action Figure Musuem in Pauls Valley has become a world famous attraction, drawing over 14,000 visitors to the city this summer alone. So when news spread that the museum could be moving to Oklahoma City, many were shocked and upset. Wednesday, board members announced whether the action figure museum would stay in place or leave Pauls Valley for good. Dara Downs reports.
"We talked to realtors, they approached us, we had meetings with the Chamber things like that in Oklahoma City. We were serious."
Members of the Toy and Action Figure Museum board, and many from the community gathered Wednesday morning to see if the museum would stay in Pauls Valley, or make the move to Oklahoma City.
"The toy and action figure museum is staying in Pauls Valley," announced Museum Curator Kevin Stark.
Stark says when news of the possible move spread, he immediately saw an outpouring of local support from both people and businesses within the city, making the decision to stay an easy one.
"This is its home, this is the Toy Museum's home so I think yeah it should be here," Stark said.
The museum has become a large attraction since it opened five years ago, bringing visitors from not only throughout the U.S., but from across the world.
Jocelyn Rushing says it was important to her and many others to keep the one-of-a-kind museum right where it is.
"What we have we take care of and we want to keep here, and they just showed that they really do support," said Rushing. "And even though the economy is down and times are hard, people came together and said we will sacrifice to keep what we have."
But Kevin Stark says the Toy and Action Figure Museum might not be the only novelty museum in town for long.
"We are actually working to bring another museum here which would be a Hollywood cowboy museum a lot of the original movie posters and things like that from the 30's, 40's and 50's," said Stark.
But for now, Stark says one thing is for certain. The Toy and Action Figure Museum will continue to call Pauls Valley its home.
