Nichols Judge Sits on High Court

9-28-04 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's newest Supreme Court justice has been sworn in.

Steven W. Taylor, the Pittsburg County judge who presided over the murder trial of Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols, was sworn in yesterday by Chief Justice Joe Watt.

Taylor's formal swearing in will not be for several weeks. But Taylor says Watt told him he wanted him on the job as soon as possible. Taylor attended his first conference of the Supreme Court yesterday morning.

Taylor was appointed on Thursday by Governor Henry. He replaces veteran Justice Ralph B. Hodges, who retired.

Taylor says the importance of being appointed to the post is still sinking in. He says the work of the state's highest court affects every citizen in Oklahoma.
