10-5-04 - An OU fraternity member has been arrested after the alcohol related death of a student last week. It’s bringing new attention to binge drinking on college campuses; including at Southeastern in Durant.

The solution at many campuses, including SOSU, has been to ban alcohol on campus. At OU, administrators have created an advisory committee to look into the issue of underage drinking and alcohol abuse on campus.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Cody Barrington for allegedly furnishing alcohol to a
minor on the night a 19-year-old pledge consumed a fatal amount of alcohol. Barrington was a resident at the Sigma Chi fraternity house where Blake Adam Hammontree was found dead on September 30th. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office determined last week that Hammontree had a blood alcohol level of .42, five times the legal limit for intoxication.

District Attorney Tim Kuykendall says Barrington wasn't arrested for furnishing alcohol to Hammontree, but for providing alcohol to another fraternity member.
