Plainview Student Dies in Wreck

Video will be available shortly.

10-8-04 – A 15-year-old Ardmore teenager injured in a car wreck Thursday morning has passed away. Brett Spells was a freshman at Plainview High School; he passed away just after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Brett was the passenger in a car involved in a wreck on Plainview road Thursday morning. The driver, 16-year-old Cody Mayo, suffered minor injuries after he swerved to hit a deer and crashed into a tree.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the driver was not speeding and both teens were wearing their seatbelts. They were on their way to pick up a friend for school.

Brett was pinned in the pickup for several minutes; he was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital with a serious head injury. Family members say he was taken off of life support yesterday afternoon.

Extra counselors and church leaders will be on hand at Plainview high school to help students deal with the tragedy.
