Durant School Gets Security Grant

10-9-04- The Durant school district is getting a $100, 000 federal grant to help beef up its security program.

Already recognized as having one of the state's best programs,
Durant was one of 109 districts nationwide to receive the grant for
school safety and crisis management.

The district was the only one in Oklahoma to receive some of the
$ 28.6 million dollars distributed by the U-S Department of Education.

Assistant Superintendent Duane Merideth says the grant will allow the district to update its crisis management plan.

Contractors will be hired to evaluate each of the six Durant campuses. Analog security cameras with black-and-white displays will be replaced with color, digital cameras.
