The city of Durant did their part this morning in cleaning up campgrounds around Lake Texoma. The Durant Chamber of Commerce along with the Durant Rotary Club headed up the clean up efforts at Lakeside, just west of Durant.

Around 30 volunteers came out to pick up debris and help paint rusted campground equipment, including: tables and road signs. The Army Corps of Engineers say thanks to efforts of the group, Lakeside should be opened to the public next week.

Cindy Buchanan with the Corp says, "It’s really just an incredible feeling that there are people that want to generate and donate their time in order to get the campground back open."

John Buchanan with the Durant Rotary Club says, “It’s just a great effort for people to just volunteer their time and to try to help the community."

The group hopes to continue their clean-up effort the next couple of weeks.
