Bean Bag Gun Ends Standoff

Video will be available shortly.

10-21-04 - Law enforcement officers used non-lethal weapons to end an armed standoff south of Whitewright on Thursday. Fannin and Grayson County authorities fired a bean bag gun and rubber bullets at Byron Franks as he walked out of his home with a handgun.

The standoff began around 10am at his trailer home in Sante Fe Trails, near the Grayson and Fannin County lines. Franks fired two shots from a rifle outside his home – part of an on-going domestic dispute. He barricaded himself inside for the next four hours.

His family and authorities stayed on the phone with him throughout the afternoon and he finally emerged around 2pm. But as he tried to get to a vehicle, officers used the non-lethal weapons to disable him.
