Patrol Cars Damaged in High Speed Chase

12-6-04 – Two patrol cars were damaged after a chase in Bryan County early Sunday morning. According to authorities, the pursuit began when a Durant police officer tried to pull over a car for speeding on South 9th Street around 2:00 a.m.

The driver took off at a high rate of speed through Durant and into Calera. Two Durant officers and a Bryan County Deputy were involved in the chase. Officers say the driver often crossed the center line during the chase, forcing on-coming traffic of roadways.

It ended after the suspect’s car turned and hit the Bryan County deputy’s patrol car, damaging the vehicle. A Durant officer’s vehicle was also damaged when it went through a barb-wire fence.

All four suspects in the vehicle were arrested and taken to the Bryan County Jail.

The driver, Rodney Mc Michael is charged with attempting to allude. One passenger, 18-year-old Ashton Bowen is charged with possession of marijuana. Two other men, riding in the car, are charged with obstruction. They are identified as Johnny Merritt and Michael Puentes.

All of the suspects are from Durant.
