Durant Cited in National Book

Video will be available shortly.

12-6-04 - The city of Durant is getting national recognition thanks to a new book, and the city’s historic downtown area. The author of Boomtown USA named Durant as one of the 13 top communities in keeping their downtown area thriving.

One of the biggest projects to get Durant the recognition is the Streetscape plan – making over the sidewalks, streets and overall look of downtown. The city was also noted for promoting small businesses that have been loyal to downtown, as opposed to just focusing on big-box stores like Wal-Mart.

Boomtown USA was written by Jack Schutlz of Illinois.
