Sheriff Investigates Toddler Death

Video will be available shortly.

12-7-04 - Authorities in Johnston County say what appears to be a tragic accident has taken the life of a 17-month-old boy.

Jacob Ryan Wilson was apparently trying to crawl out of his baby crib on Sunday night when he became caught between the bed rail and a homemade cover. The young boy suffocated.

Johnston County Sheriff Jon Smith says the parents were trying to keep the boy from crawling out of the bed because they were afraid he’d fall. They used cardboard and a piece of plywood to act as a cover for the bed.

The sheriff is waiting on an autopsy report before he sends the case to the district attorney's office for evaluation.
