Remembering Mike Tatar

Video will be available shortly.

12-8-04 - The son of a Denison man killed in Iraq last month shared his story with First News today for the 1st time since his father’s death. Mike Tatar was training police officers in Iraq when an AK-47 accidentally fired and took his life.

His son and only child, Jaret, says it was the toughest phone call he’s ever had to take. Since that time, he’s been helping run his father’s business, a shoe repair shop in Denison that has been in the family for 3 generations.

Jaret says his father went overseas to make a difference. He had spent a lifetime doing the same thing while working for law enforcement in Grayson and Fannin counties.

Jaret's grandfather is still in town from Illinois helping with the store. After he leaves, Jaret’s aunt and uncle will help him run the store.
