Heavy Drinking: 2nd OU Frat Suspended

10-29-04 - NORMAN, Okla. (AP) A second University of Oklahoma fraternity is suspended after a pledge was taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

The 18-year-old Delta Upsilon fraternity member was treated at the emergency room and released early yesterday morning, going to his parent's home.

His name hasn't been released.

Officials say he attended a Big Brother-Little Brother party at the fraternity and returned to his dorm room in a highly intoxicated state.

OU President David Boren ordered the immediate suspension of the fraternity.

Less than a month ago 19-year-old Blake Hammontree died after a night of drinking at the Sigma Chi fraternity's Big Brother-Little Brother party.

Boren says the recent incident underlines the problem of drinking on campus and the challenges in addressing it.

Delta Upsilon has 105 members and had 35 pledges who became members Sunday.
