Clean Sweep in Local Elections

12-14-04 - Four local communities all saw success tonight in school and municipal elections.

Calera and Colbert both passed school bond issues. 64% of Colbert voters said yes to a $2.4 million bond that will pay for classrooms and a gym. In Calera, 66% of the voters approved a $950,000 bond to build more classrooms and a safe room.

The Wilson School District put two bond issues in front of voters - one for a new childhood center at a cost of $720,000 and the other for $80,000 worth of new school buses. Both reached the 60% needed to pass.

In the city of Atoka, voters approved a proposition to extend the industrial-economic sales tax for five more years.

Austin College Commencement Celebration Nearing
