Racist Attack on City Signs

Video will be available shortly.

12-14-04 - Two billboards meant to welcome visitors to the small town of Elmore City are now covered in graffiti, with racist language.

Vandals left the spray-painted profanity on Sunday – the same day the city celebrated its 106th anniversary. The target of the attack appeared to be Mayor Rachel Bailey. Bailey, who is white, says the vulgar vandalism proves that racism is still alive in the area.

City workers used black spray paint to cover the offensive words on Tuesday morning. They will eventually replace both signs which will cost around $500.

The Garvin County Sheriff's deparment is investigating this crime. If you have information contact them at (405) 238-7591.
