Plastic Toy Maker Lays Off Workers

Video will be available shortly.

12-20-04 - High-tech electronic toys have led to the demise of a longtime Durant toy making industry. Durant Plastics laid off 27 workers this month after 40 years of making plastic toys.

From tea sets to plastic truck and toy soldiers, Durant Plastics has been a regular sight off US 75. But the Illinois based company combined with another plastics company recently, and decided to produce products at a closer location.

The plant’s manager bought the building and equipment on Saturday. He plans to keep six employees to do custom molding work.
