ARDMORE, Okla. -- Students at Charles Evans Elementary School got a glimpse of how pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving.

November is Native American History Month for the elementary school students, and the kids are learning about the first colonists that settled in North America hundreds of years ago.

Students dressed up in native attire and enjoyed a meal of popcorn, pumpkin bread, and fruit.

"It’s lots of fun. They enjoy learning about history and learn all about why our country began, and stands what it stands for today," first grade teacher Ella Keeton said.

The kids even performed the Lord’s Prayer in sign language.
