1-9-05- A Van Alstyne couple awoke to a loud noise coming from their kitchen early Sunday morning. Their back patio was on fire and the flames spread to the kitchen. Danny and Carolyn Kerley quickly rushed their two young grandchildren out of the house.

The fire started at the home in the 500 block of Rigsby in Van Alstyne around 4:30 a.m. this morning. The fire spread from the back patio to the kitchen and then to the rest of the house. The inside of the home is completely destroyed.

The Kerleys say they're insured and will rebuild the home. They say they're thankful everyone made it out safely.

Van Alstyne firefighters fought the fire, but they are still investigating the cause.
