11-12-04 - DALLAS (AP) - Dallas-based TXU's power generating subsidiary said today that it plans to shut down three more of its older natural gas-fired power plants.

TXU Power says it'll mothball its three-unit plant on Valley Lake near the Red River, between Bonham and Sherman.

The three-unit North Lake plant on the northwest edge of Dallas, near Coppell will also be affected.

The two-unit plant near Colorado City in West Texas may also be shut down.

The shutdown will remove more than 25-hundred megawatts of generating capacity, or 25 percent of TXU Power's gas-fired generating capacity in Texas.

TXU Power says almost 100 jobs will be affected by the move.

The company says it expects to save 20 million dollars from the shutdowns, which involve generating units dating from the late 1950s and early '60s.
